Reverse shoulder replacement surgery is used for people who have
- Massive rotator cuff tears with severe arm weakness
- Severe arthritis and rotator cuff tearing (cuff tear arthropathy)
- Previous failed shoulder replacement.
- In reverse shoulder replacement, the socket and metal ball are reversed. Which means a metal ball is fixed to the shoulder bone and a plastic socket is fixed to the upper part of the arm bone. Deltoid muscle of the arm allows the patient to lift the shoulder instead of rotator cuff muscles.
