Chondromalacia patellae is damage to the cartilage at the back of the kneecap (patella).It is associated with lax joints ,over use sports and patellar alignment problems.It is more common in young (women)population.
Complaints
Pain underneath or around the edges of the patella
A grinding sensation may be felt when extending the leg.
Pain aggravated with squatting, kneeling, going up or down stairs
Diagnosis
Your symptoms plus a doctor's examination of the knee
Special knee x-rays - may help to rule out cartilage changes.
MRI scan/CT scan
Arthroscopy of the knee to see exactly what the cartilage looks like.
